Who are we looking for?
The selected individual will be responsible for transforming compounds and chemistries developed by the R&D team into commercially viable products. Key objectives include: (1) developing scalable production methods to enable larger batch quantities—initially for testing, followed by commercial manufacturing—and (2) establishing synthetic routes that prioritize safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This role requires a balanced mix of theoretical expertise and hands-on experience. The ideal candidate will split their time between laboratory and production environments, conducting small-scale testing and reaction evaluations in the lab and facilitating successful large-scale implementation in the plant. Close collaboration with chemists, engineers, and operators is essential to drive innovation in product and process development. Additionally, this chemist will oversee the transfer of new products to the Pilot Production Laboratory and support the scale-up to High Volume Manufacturing (HVM), ensuring a seamless path to market.
What will you be doing?
- Works alongside R&D formulators during product development stage to ensure the prototype meets customer specifications; aids in identifying critical process variables.
- Conducts lab and pilot-scale experiments using statistical tools such as Design of Experiments; defines optimal conditions and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Collects and consolidates data during experiments and effectively communicates results with key stakeholders, colleagues, and customers.
- Developing synthetic plans, designing, and running test experiments for large-scale use
- Experimenting with multiple variables simultaneously and identifying acceptable ranges for all operational parameters
- Supports the scaling of the production process from R&D to Pilot scale and eventually HVM, with activities including the development of robust manufacturing instructions and validation of pilot scale batches.
- Leads Design for Manufacturability efforts within R&D; assists in the creation of a Process Flow Chart, Control Plan and FMEA for new products.
- Uses Statistical Process Control (SPC) principles to monitor critical processes and recommend areas of improvement.
- Conducts raw material and equipment evaluations and develops test specifications.
Who are You?
- PhD degree > 3 years and or MS > 7 years of relevant experience, preferably in chemistry, or related field.
- > 3 years of formulation experience in electroplating or other wet process is preferred, especially in the Semiconductor or Printed Circuit Board industries.
- Strong experience in chemical separation/purification such as filtration, evaporation, distillation, chromatography, and chemical characterization techniques (such as GPC, HPLC, LC-MS) that are used to analyze separated species.
- Experience with statistics and experimental design (Six Sigma, Lean, DOE)
- Familiarity with process documents used in design and safety evaluations such as FMEA, HAZOP, Control Plans Ability to identify and address potential safety hazards.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the R&D, PPL and Manufacturing teams.
- Ability to work in a high pace, changing environment and shift priorities as necessary.Well-organized, detail oriented, and problem-solving skills.
We understand that not all candidates may meet the requirements listed above. If you believe you have the knowledge and experience necessary to excel in this role, we encourage you to apply.
What competencies will you need?
- Very strong understanding of scale up, synthesis and chemical engineering courses. Experience with flow chemistry, scale up and analytical measurements.
- A team player able to work effectively and constructively with other team members and other functions in the company.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with capability to develop and maintain internal and external business relationships.
- Ability to raise inquiries and problem solve by leveraging appropriate resources to drive issues to resolution.
