Job Purpose

As a Wastewater Design Engineer, you will be a key member of the growing MacDermid Envio Solutions (MES) engineering team. This position has the opportunity to either be office-based position out of our Rock Hill, SC location or fully remote and will initially be focused on developing projects for Europe. In this role you will be responsible for the design, development, and calculations pertaining to, but not limited to, industrial wastewater treatment systems and their structures. You will act as a lead, as well as an individual contributor while developing systems, processes, and manufacturing designs.



Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide support in the planning, design, analysis, implementation, and validation of wastewater treatment systems
  • Prepare and review working drawings, details, layouts, studies, and reports
  • Conduct assessments of existing and proposed systems for improvements, cost benefit analysis, and upgrades
  • Calculate structural loads, head pressures, pump sizing, and flow rates for entire systems.
  • Must be capable of performing independent design tasks, reviewing the designs of others, preparing drawings and specifications, and organizing all drawings, reports, calculations, and associated project deliverables, after receiving initial instructions from engineering manager, while receiving limited supervision
  • Assist in generating engineering standards and best practices
  • Develop plant layouts using AutoCAD
  • Use 3D modeling to read, modify, and generate new and reverse engineered parts and drawings
  • Modify, design, and develop equipment to increase safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency
  • Establish requirements for vendor equipment and review and approve vendor documentation
  • Occasional international and national travel

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must possess good interpersonal skills to effectively interface with clients and be capable to lead project progress meetings, make project presentations, and provide clear written communications.
  • Team orientation with the ability to work well with others of all disciplines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Continuous improvement driven with a willingness to adopt new ideas/skills
  • MS Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • 2D and 3D modeling software (AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor preferred)
  • GD&T is a plus
  • Management of individual contributors is a plus
  • Highly mechanically inclined
  • Knowledge or understanding of PLC programming is a plus
  • Chemistry and/or Civil Engineering background is a plus
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed to assist with site investigations, installs, and startups
  • Strong chemical background is a plus


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering required (Chemical or Environmental Engineering with a strong mechanical background will be considered)
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • 5+ years of wastewater experience
  • Bilingual in Italian (Spanish or German will be considered)

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily work in an office environment
  • Occasional required to work in a manufacturing or field environment, wearing steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection
  • Must be able to reach with your hands and arms, climb ladders and stairs, and carry light ergonomic loads
