Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a Sr. Director of Research & Development that will be responsible for leading the global portfolio of New Product Development (NPD), Applications Engineering, and Technology Development for the Circuit Board Assembly (CBA) Business Unit at MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions. As a strategic business partner to the CBA Business Unit Leader and a key member of the Global R&D Leadership Team, this individual will drive the execution and delivery of innovative products, the exploration of emerging technologies, and the advancement of application engineering capabilities specific to CBA.
This role oversees a broad and complex range of technologies, including chemistries, polymers, formulations, alloys, and metallurgy—requiring a strong foundation in materials science. The ideal candidate will bring both strategic vision and technical expertise to accelerate growth through innovation, ensuring MacDermid Alpha remains at the forefront of advanced materials for electronics assembly.
What will you be doing?

Lead and own the global New Product Development (NPD) and technology portfolio for the Circuit Board Assembly (CBA) Business Unit, ensuring on-time product launches.

Drive the development of cutting-edge products for Surface Mount PCB Technologies including solders, fluxes, alloys, conformal coatings, underfills, edge bonds, thermal interface materials, and potting compounds.

Act as the primary business partner to the CBA BU, aligning R&D initiatives with business strategy and providing regular updates on development progress.

Implement continuous improvement practices across the global R&D team, leveraging best practices from across the organization.

Contribute to the Technology Roadmap (TRM) by identifying emerging capabilities, evaluating competitive technologies, and proposing new R&D initiatives.

Collaborate closely with the Global Process Engineering Group to ensure seamless integration of R&D into new product launches.

Champion MacDermid Alpha’s technical leadership in the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) industry.

Assess and address gaps in resources, skills, and equipment; develop and execute global R&D CapEx plans.

Drive talent development through succession planning, performance management, and career growth initiatives for the global R&D team.
Who are You?
We are looking for a seasoned professional with a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field—an advanced degree is a plus. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years experience in the electronics assembly or a related industry, and bring deep technical expertise along with industry insight. Along with the previously metioned a strong track record of successfully leading R&D teams and managing complex projects, combining scientific knowledge with strategic leadership to drive innovation and results is a must.

Technical Expertise in materials science, including chemistries, polymers, metallurgy, and surface mount PCB assembly technologies.

Proven experience in New Product Development and Technology Strategy Execution within a global organization.

Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage diverse, international R&D teams and foster technical excellence.

Strategic and analytical mindset with experience contributing to and executing on a technology roadmap.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including interfacing with senior business leaders and key customers.

Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional collaboration, particularly between R&D, engineering, and manufacturing.

Experience in resource planning and capital investment justification for global R&D operations.

Knowledge and implementation of lab safety standards and compliance best practices.

Track record of leading continuous improvement and implementing global best practices in R&D.

Ability to inspire, coach, and develop high-performing technical teams in a fast-paced innovation environment.
