Who are we looking for?

The Safety, Environment, and Quality Manager is tasked with ensuring a safe working environment in the R&D facility while maintaining compliance with local regulations and ESI global standards. The role involves managing quality systems, policies, and practices to support continuous improvement and ensure adherence to ISO9001:2015 and IATF16949 standards.

What will you be doing?

Safety Management & Hazard Mitigation

  • Conducting safety studies (HAZOP, HIRA, QRA, JSA) to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Investigating incidents and near-misses, ensuring root cause analysis and preventive actions.
  • Performing audits, inspections, and assessments to eliminate unsafe conditions or acts.
  • Encouraging incident and near-miss reporting and reviewing action effectiveness.

Training & Awareness

  • Organizing EHS training for stakeholders at all levels.
  • Conducting EHS awareness campaigns and new employee/visitor inductions.
  • Providing specific training on emergency devices, safety equipment, and fire safety systems.

Guidelines & Policy Development

  • Creating policies aligned with ESI global EHS and local regulations.
  • Establishing guidelines for handling hazardous substances, PPE compliance, and visitor/contractor safety.
  • Ensuring policies are documented and accessible via systems like C-Pro.

Compliance & Legal Requirements

  • Ensuring compliance with pollution control, labor laws, and other regulations.
  • Periodic evaluations of legal compliance levels.
  • Supporting ISO9001 and IATF QMS audits and post-audit resolutions.

EHS Culture & Emergency Preparedness

  • Promoting an EHS culture through campaigns and communication.
  • Conducting mock drills and emergency preparedness training for all potential scenarios.
  • Monitoring and maintaining emergency devices.

Workplace Conditions & Waste Management

  • Managing air and water pollution controls (STP, ETP, scrubbers).
  • Encouraging waste reduction and best practices for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Ensuring comfortable workplace conditions (noise, temperature, ventilation).

Quality Management System (Preferred)

  • Leading QMS development and ISO/IATF compliance efforts.

  • Acting as a management representative for audits and quality initiatives.
  • Providing quality training and implementing continuous improvement activities.

Who are You?

  • The position requires a BE/MTech/MSc. degree, or its equivalent, in engineering /science or in a related field, with preferably 5 - 10 years of work experience in an industrial research environment as EHS representative.
  • This role requires proven skills in EHS management, preferably as individual contributor for medium size organization or part of the EHS management team at a bigger organization.
  • Preferably this position requires relevant EHS certifications from Indian or global agencies.
  • It will be preferred, if the person has got some prior exposure to Quality Management System (QMS) practices at previous roles, though the required exposure and training will be provided on job at MAES upon hire on ISO9001:2015 and IATF16949 standards.

What competencies will you need?

  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem solving skills highly desirable.
  • Successful candidate should be self-motivated and driven to exceed goals, work effectively with minimal direction or feedback and willingly make decisions independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and ability to work in a team environment is necessary.
  • Verbal communication ability in Kannada (local language) will be preferred.
  • The position is required to hold any of the necessary certifications and qualifications needed for carrying out EHS role such as CSP, NEBOSH, PGDIS or relevant diploma in industrial safety etc.
