Who are we looking for?

The R&D Scientist II will support formulation development, materials characterization, application‑process optimization, and performance testing of next‑generation electronic materials, including sintered nanomaterials. The role will develop and validate materials‑characterization methods, functional test metrology, and performance‑testing protocols to enable formulation optimization.

This is a hands‑on, lab‑centric position involving design of experiments (DOE), process optimization, structure–property correlation, and defect/failure analysis. The R&D Scientist II will ensure high standards of data integrity, disciplined documentation, and ISO/EHS compliance while collaborating with global, cross‑functional teams to accelerate technology readiness and product qualification.

What will you be doing?

  • Develop, characterize, and evaluate product formulations to support formulation optimization.
  • Support scale‑up activities from laboratory to pilot scale in collaboration with process engineering, manufacturing, and sourcing teams.
  • Design and execute statistical DOEs to optimize application processes such as printing, dispensing, sintering, reflow, electroplating, and related processes.
  • Prepare test samples and perform electrical, thermal, mechanical, and related performance testing to establish structure–property correlations.
  • Conduct metallographic sample preparation and defect analysis using microscopy techniques to correlate microstructural features with material performance.
  • Generate performance data suitable for inclusion in Technical Bulletins and Product Data Sheets.
  • Analyze, organize, and document experimental data; prepare technical reports, SOPs, presentations, and customer‑ready performance summaries.
  • Manage inventories of raw materials, consumables, tooling/jigs, and test vehicles, and coordinate sample builds, packaging, and shipment of materials and test samples.
  • Apply statistical, Six Sigma, and root‑cause methodologies (ANOVA, MSA, FMEA, RCA, Fishbone, 5‑Why) for defect analysis, failure investigation, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) recommendations, and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Conduct systematic and safe laboratory experiments using appropriate scientific and engineering test methods, apply creative problem‑solving to improve product performance, and operate, maintain, and perform preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment while ensuring ISO‑compliant documentation, strong EHS and 5S practices, and continuous improvement of laboratory processes.

Who are You?

This role requires a technically proficient candidate with strong hands‑on experience in electronic materials development, semiconductor materials processing, and electronics assembly operations.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field, with approximately six years of hands‑on R&D experience in formulation development, materials characterization, and performance testing for electronics or semiconductor applications.
  • Proven experience in electronic materials development and application‑process optimization, with strong knowledge of materials processing and characterization techniques, electronics assembly methods, electroplating, and engineering test methodologies.

What competencies will you need?

  • Hands‑on experience operating laboratory equipment and instruments (e.g., stencil printers, dispensing systems, reflow ovens, sinter presses, electrochemical plating
  • systems, environmental chambers, and electrical, thermal, and mechanical test systems), with exposure to metallographic sample preparation and optical/SEM analysis preferred.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Excel and Minitab; familiarity with LabVIEW, Python/MATLAB, and CAD platforms (AutoCAD, Fusion 360, SolidWorks) is a plus.
  • Track record of publications in peer‑reviewed international journals (preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with effective verbal and written communication capabilities, working knowledge of ISO quality systems and EHS practices, and disciplined, traceable documentation habits suited for a global, cross‑cultural environment.
