Job Purpose

The general purpose of this position is twofold:

  1. Act as a Customer Service professional in support of the North American Customer base within a Sales environment with a particular focus on coordinating the implementation and ongoing management of Electronic Data Interfaces (EDI, VMI, CMI) between Alpha and their customers.
  2. Establish and maintain a profitable relationship with customers on behalf of the company by taking complete responsibility for each customer contact and by ensuring that all customer requirements are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.  This will include supporting customers by providing necessary information, feedback, and communication in a timely manner, and providing documentation, data entry support and information exchange functions arising from the sales process. Also, will undertake special projects upon the request of Inside Sales Manager.



Essential Functions

Primary Function: Coordinate the implementation and life-cycle management of Electronic Data Interfaces (EDI, VMI, CMI) between Alpha and their customers.

  • Determines operational feasibility through evaluation, analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
  • Improves Sales processes by conducting systems analysis, recommending changes in policies and procedures.
  • Conducts training and support of end-users in the operation of EDI software solutions.


  • Communicate/interact effectively with the Production and Sales Teams, to provide continuous, courteous service to meet all customer requirements (i.e. expedites, new product information, problem solving, etc.) to ensure customer objectives are met.
  • Provide direct line communication between Sales Team with regards to customer issues.
  • Communicate directly with customers (OEM and distributors) in the processing of orders, pricing, addressing concerns and questions, and providing statuses on orders.
  • Track and monitor each target account for: timeliness of orders, quantity of orders, any problems with orders, etc.  Communicate status to sales personnel on a regular basis.
  • Maintain customer files with regards to pricing, labeling unique to individual customers, shipping requirements, and material specifications.
  • Monitor consignment accounts to ensure weekly reconciliation by placing orders, receiving material, and verbal communications with account.
  • Coordinate customer receipts and shipments with Shipping and Receiving, Quality and Production Departments to ensure customer needs are met.
  • Monitor status of customer orders that are in-house from time of arrival to departure.  Report order performance such as receiving data, on time delivery, customer returns and complaints.
  • Provide telemarketing services by following up on customer leads and sending correspondence and literature as required.
  • Support distributor network to provide distributor with information on new products, expedites, price support, and other requirements as necessary.
  • Perform administrative responsibilities (order entry, customer correspondence, return authorizations, filing, adequate, updated customer information)
  • Support Sales personnel to ensure that DSM has tools and information necessary to secure new accounts and maintain current accounts.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience working with an integrated ERP system, such as JD Edwards, SAP, etc. 
  • Strong understanding of database organization and structure
  • Experience with Database tools, like SQL, ODBC.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects. 
  • Outstanding organizational abilities are needed.
  • Must be able to efficiently operate a computer.
  • Must be able to work in an environment that requires multi-tasking
  • Must be able to work under pressure with multiple demands at any point in time.
  • Must have excellent telephone skills.
  • Must have the ability to maintain and build customer relations through extensive customer service skills.

Education and/or Experience

The incumbent of this position must possess a bachelor’s degree preferably in a business discipline, although other disciplines will be considered based on experience.  Experience with EDI/VMI/CMI (Electronic Data Interfaces), as well as various ERP software applications (SAP and/or JDE preferable) required.
